Bing catches Google in search market share

Posted: 8/22/2012
By: Lindsey Graham
Small business owners who are trying to improve their marketing efforts have started utilizing search engine optimization to make sure they appear at the top of searches on websites such as Google and Bing.

Bing is becoming more popular among internet users, serving as a dependable alternative to Google. Google possesses the majority share of the search market, but Bing is making significant strides to cut into Google's lead in the market.

According to a recent comScore report, Google has retained 66.8 percent of the search market, but once again, Bing has continued to show signs of gaining ground. The report also showed that Yahoo, the search giant's other rival, has remained steady in the race to gaining more of Google's market share.

Google recently underwent changes to modify its search results, which, according to SmallBizTrends.com, could push more queries toward rivals of the search engine, further improving Bing and Yahoo's places in market share. According to experts, Google is beginning to show fewer results and is showing many of the same domains, which is making its competitors a more attractive option.

Experts have also recently advised many companies and internet users to expand their search engine options and compare them to decide which one is more reliable and produces the most search results.

While Bing and Yahoo have shown progress in the past several months, Google still has small business marketing tools that won't be surpassed anytime soon. Google Analytics is one of the marketing tools used by companies to track their progress and marketing information.

Bing reported an increased in search volumes of 29 percent in 2010, and the company has also introduced personalized searches that allow users to view better search results.
