The birth of R&B superstar Beyonce and rapper Jay-Z's first child was arguably the biggest entertainment news story of the year thus far - but for a Boston-based small business specializing in event-planning, it meant much more than that, the Huffington Post reports.
That's because the child and the company share the same name, Blue Ivy. The couple are believed to have chosen the name as an homage to Jay-Z's three "Blueprint" albums and Beyonce's lucky number, four (or IV in Roman numerals). Boston small business owner Veronica Alexandra decided upon the same name after six months of deliberation.
"We wanted to brand ourselves as being of a certain caliber," she told the news source. "We thought of things that were elegant, pretty, sophisticated. I liked the word 'ivy' because it's prestigious, romantic, growing. ... With 'blue,' we wanted to be edgy, and a blue flower is something very unique."
For prospective entrepreneurs considering starting a business, choosing a name is one of the most important decisions of all. As Alexandra noted, a well-picked company name can evoke positive associations within consumers that affect how they view the business before they even research it.
