Small business advertising can be taxing for some entrepreneurs. Having the time to be proficient all aspects of a business can require more than a 24-hour day, but making sure marketing strategies are in order can have a long-lasting effect on a company's success.

Entrepreneurs who have a marketing plan should make sure they have the most exposure as possible, which can be accomplished through display advertising. According to Time magazine, display advertising can be a great way to market and build a brand for companies that are just starting up. In order to reap the benefits of display advertising, companies should follow simple practices.

The source recommends that entrepreneurs decide if they want their product or services to have a broad appeal or a narrow audience. Companies that are looking to market to a target audience in a specific area or based on behavior will have a higher cost per thousand impressions.

According to Tamara Weintraub from ReachLocal, the second step to having successful display advertising techniques is creating appealing banner ads with a clear message that will get through to consumers who are looking for the services or products the company is looking to market.

Ads should be clean and bold enough to catch a consumer's attention within the first couple seconds. Entrepreneurs should also make sure that they let consumers know what the marketing company's value proposition is or aim to promote a feature that appeals to the target audience. The business owner should make sure it's clear what the consumer could get by clicking on the ad.

Google AdSense is a great way to market a company. It allows business owners to pay for their ads to be featured on websites of companies that have similar interests.
