Facebook action links create marketing opportunities

Facebook users have been clamoring for additional "action" tools beyond the traditional "Like" or "comment" options for some time. Remember the whole "Dislike" craze?

Well, Facebook has decided to appease users. The social media site will now allow users to "save" a story with an action - such as having listened to a song on Spotify or checked into a store location on foursquare - which is then posted on the users' Timelines, as well as other friends' newsfeeds and tickers, Business Insider reports.

This adds an interactive element to Timelines and acts as an additional business promotion idea for owners and managers.

According to PCWorld, after users "save" a location, for example, they're asked if they want to add the app they used to do so (i.e. foursquare).

The addition of this action link is primarily an innovation for developers to take notice of, since they're the ones who have the power to add it. Many users will probably find the "save" feature to be quite subtle, notes the media outlet. However, businesses should laud the addition, since it seems Facebook is now encouraging users to engage with brands and products more than ever before.
