Looking for business inspiration? Try these Twitter feeds

Posted: 7/24/2012
By: Mark Nolan
Even when business owners claim inspiration is everywhere, it can certainly be hard to find when people are feeling especially uninspired. However, TheStreet website recently released the top inspirational Twitter accounts, all of which can be accessed for free, and hey - you might get a few business promotion ideas in the process.

- Productivity consultant and author David Allen, @gtdguy

When businesses hit a wall creatively or when lacking productivity, David Allen's tweets could make all the difference. Allen is the author of "Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" and has a work-life management system used by top companies and executives. TheStreet likens Allen's Twitter feed to "getting your own mini-session with Allen himself … for free!"

Sample tweet: "@gtdguy Try to play a complex game in your head. Why would you think you could manage your life that way?"

- Author Daniel Pink, @DanielPink

Daniel Pink is the author of "Drive: The Surprising Truth about What Motivates Us and a Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future" and has a supremely active Twitter feed. But Pink isn't the type to simply post links to thought-provoking information of his own creation - he also regularly retweets people who inspire him. Getting a retweet from someone with Pink's following (more than 194,000 followers) could also increase a business' likelihood of some kick-back social media promotion.

- Harvard Business School professor and author Rosabeth Moss Kanter, @RosabethKanter

TheStreet calls Kanter's Twitter feed an "upbeat mix of advice and motivational speaking, applying the latest business research to lessons that can be applied at both work and home." Kanter, author of "SuperCorp: How Vanguard Companies Create Opportunity, Profit, Growth and Social Good," often links to articles in the Harvard Business review and gives tough-love advice through her tweets, though rarely interacts with other tweeters.

Sample tweet: "@RosabethKanter Influence is oftn equated w/ size, but size isn't everything. What matters is the size of the idea … "

- The Small Business Administration (SBA), @sbagov

This may not seem like the most exciting Twitter feed to follow, but it's full of advice that both small and larger businesses can learn from. The SBA regularly tweets - sometimes more than 10 times per day - about policy changes, government standards and how businesses can thrive in a difficult economy. Not only can businesses make sure they're playing by all the rules, they can discover some new business-related Twitter hashtags in the process.

Sample tweet: "@sbagov Starting a #foodtruck? Follow these 5 rules of the road to stay on track … #smallbiz #startup"
