Small business marketing tips from experts

Posted: 9/24/2012

Small businesses are constantly looking for ways to increase their marketing efforts in order to reach a larger audience. With the emergence of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, entrepreneurs are turning to social media to get the word out about their great products or services.

With so many options available, a panel of young entrepreneurs recently gave tips through the Washington Post that will give small business owners a blueprint to being more successful in a troubling financial climate.

According to Anthony Krumeich, CEO and co-founder of Bloodhound in San Francisco, there are countless ways to market a business in today's world of social media. He advised that entrepreneurs should consider all options before spending money on a marketing campaign.

"Before throwing money at the various channels, you need to look at your business’ specific circumstances to find where your best ROI will come from," Krumeich said. "Are you a startup in a crowded space? Try using very targeted Facebook ads and promoted tweets to reach customers that aren’t already being engaged by your bigger competitors."

Krumeich added that large companies can afford to dominate a significant percentage of social media channels, but small business should be more creative with their approach to gain revenue while not spending as much money. The long-tail market should be identified first if an entrepreneur is trying to find a starting point. Finding out where the holes are in competitors' marketing strategies could have a huge impact on the success of a small business marketing campaign.

Small companies looking to build their brand through advertising can now do so through a new publication called Golf Connection, which was created by 3Thirty6 Publications to provide an outlet for entrepreneurs to increase their marketing efforts while acquiring more high-income customers.
