Tips to improving website search rankings

There are millions of small businesses looking to create a perfect marketing plan to take the top spot in search rankings on Google, Bing and other search engines. Considering the number of businesses looking to compete against one another is so high, entrepreneurs should do their best to make sure their marketing plan stands out amongst others in order to get the most out of their small business marketing.

The Toronto Star recently released tips for small business owners who would like to make their company more visible in search engine results.

There are more than 644 million estimated active websites on the internet, and the number is increasing every hour, with businesses looking to work harder to have their products and services noticed in a pool of competitors.

One of the most important tips offered by the source is to secure links by reaching out to industry associates, loyal clients and other business that complement the service or product being offered by your company. Connecting with other business owners can make the difference between a company being a big fish in a small pond and a business being a small fish in a big pond. Complementary businesses should be encouraged to provide links for the entrepreneurs' site from their blogs and resource pages.

Content should also be updated regularly on the company's website. Business owners should provide compelling and fresh content that is unique to any others that are currently seen on the market. Blog posts, videos, images, webinars and infographics are great ways of providing fresh and innovative content.

According to a study by Forrester, websites that contained pages with a mixture of text and video are 50 times more likely to rank higher in search engine results, which could encourage any business to make sure the content on their website is up to date.

Using keywords in page titles is also a great way of improving search engine ranking. Each web page should have a title that is relevant and unique from any other competitors' websites. The title should contain keywords that are related to how the company wants its website to be found through a search.

Businesses are also now using music website Pandora in order to expand their business and reach a larger audience in their respective industry. Using the site has proven to be effective for some businesses in the past.
