A logo is important because it catches the eye of prospective customers and reassures customers that they have landed in the right place.

Here at Amsterdam Printing, you can add your logo to any one of our 2,000 products. So we wanted to take some to discuss the importance of having a logo for your business.

A well designed logo will establish a professional look, create brand identity and it will even help you to retain loyal customers. We sat down with some of the best creative graphic designers that we know and chatted about the importance of a logo. Here’s what we learned:

What is a logo?

According to our team member, Jon, “A logo is to your business as your face is to you.”  Basically, your logo is the “face” of your company. You will place your logo everywhere from your website to business cards and even your company pens, so you need it to look good!

How do I create a logo?

You will want to create a logo that graphically represents your business and what you have to offer. There are all kinds of logo types and any of them could work for your business: Iconic/Symbolic, Logotype/Text, or an Image with Text combination. The best logos are thought-provoking and strengthen your brand image.

You can create your own logo or have someone design one for you. There are some great sites that will create your logo for you, if you don’t have experience in Photoshop or other creative software. Companies like 10-A-Logo or Upwork can help you to create the perfect logo for your business.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Choose colors that match your company branding
  • Keep it simple, you don’t want every color in the rainbow on your logo
  • Choose a font and logo that endure the test of time. (Chances are, you probably won’t update it again in a few years!)
  • Have a version of your logo created with a transparent background
  • Make sure you have file formats of your logo for use across print (JPG and PDF) and web (TIF and EPS)
  • Look to other sites and print pieces for inspiration

At the end of the day, you want your logo to be compelling, appropriate, distinctive, simple in form, practical, and to convey you intended message. Creating the right logo for your business is a process and it will take some time to get it right. But we know you can do it!  Just be patient and make sure that your company logo is both easy to remember and distinctive.

And if we can help in any way, let us know!

  2. Hey Alison, I liked your suggestion for making version of a logo with a transparent background, as it can come handy with later branding.
