As the Super Bowl approaches, sports fans across the nation are gearing up for the year's biggest football event. However, small business owners in Indiana - where this year's championship game is set to be held - have other things on their minds, according to the Indianapolis Business Journal.

Thanks to the NFL Emerging Business program, more than 400 Indiana-based companies owned by female entrepreneurs or members of minority groups have qualified for a slice of the Super Bowl spending pie. The program allows small businesses to get involved with the event, such as plant leasing service Trans-Plants, which is providing centerpieces and gift baskets for a pre-Super Bowl event.

"The best part is, you're involved," Trans-Plants founder Chris Combs told the news source. "We may never get another Super Bowl."

The company has already established business connections thanks to the initiative, according to the media outlet.

Although one-off events like the Super Bowl can be a good way to springboard a small business into success, they are no substitute for a solid business marketing campaign that reaches out to potential customers via several different channels, including social media and direct mail.
