Two communications giants are partnering to help small business owners maximize their web operations and connect with new online audiences.

This week, Intuit, a small-business software developer, and wireless provider Verizon announced that they would be teaming up to launch a complete package of internet connectivity and online marketing tools known as Verizon Websites.

Verizon will offer the package, which will use Intuit's web listings service that works with more than 100 major local search sites, to connect local customers with small businesses. Additionally, it will help owners create their own business website with minimal time and expense.

"In today's connected world, online marketing is absolutely essential to a small business' success," said Angus Thomson, general manager of Intuit's Grow Your Business division. "A strong online presence helps small businesses attract new customers and engage with existing ones so they keep coming back."

A recent survey by Verizon emphasized the importance of developing an online presence for small businesses. It found that 72 percent of businesses that have websites know how to attract new customers compared to only 44 percent that don't.
